Lunchtimes at the King's Head
The birth and growth of London's fringe theatre
Speaker: John Dunne Time: 8:00 PM Venue: Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, London N1
2010
will see the fifth anniversary of the death of Dan Crawford, founder of the
King’s Head Theatre, and the fortieth anniversary of the theatre’s first
opening night in 1970. IA&HS intends to mark these anniversaries with the publication
of a short history of the theatre, its trials, tribulations and triumphs, and
its defiant survival.
Not
only is the King's Head the longest running pub theatre in London, but it was
also the home of lunchtime theatre under the stewardship of Syd Golder who
produced over 500 plays over a thirty year period until his untimely death in
2007. Playwright and director John Dunne
cut his teeth with Syd at the King's Head and other theatres and tonight's talk
by John takes us through the heady days of "Lunchtime at the King's Head”. The
evening will also feature a recorded interview with Syd where he talks about
his theatre career.
