Protecting Islington's Heritage

Speaker: Cllr Ruth Polling
Time: 8:00 PM
Venue: Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, London N1

Members and visitors are asked to respect that this will be a strictly non party-political meeting; rather it will focus on Councillor Polling’s work with particular regard to local history, heritage and education. Her talk will include reference to her role in the establishment of the new Islington Museum, and progress on the restoration of the assembly hall in Islington Town Hall.

Councillor Ruth Polling

Executive Member for Leisure and Equalities, Islington Council

Ruth has been an Islington councillor for Bunhill Ward since May 2006 and Executive Member for Leisure and Equalities since May 2007. In her current role she provides political and strategic direction for sport, leisure, green space, arts, libraries, equalities and community cohesion within Islington.

She has been a Liberal Democrat party activist for over ten years and has worked for the party since leaving school. She is a qualified trainer for the Party supporting other activists to improve their skills and confidence whatever they want to achieve in politics. She has served at all levels of the Liberal Democrats (local, regional, national and federal). Most recently she was a member of the party’s working group on poverty, opportunity, and equality.

Ruth originally got involved in politics by accident while campaigning for a safer road crossing outside her school. Over the years many of the issues she has campaigned on have been influenced by personal experience and from representing the community she lives in.
