This walk explores an area of London
that has spent over a thousand years in almost permanent evolution.
Starting with the purpose built new Islington
Museum on St
John Street, iconic architecture includes the
latest of six incarnations of Saddler’s Wells Theatre. The much loved Finsbury
Town Hall and the juxtaposition of
old and new in the former Metropolitan Water Board are noted, as are some of
the latest award-winning projects recognised by the Royal Institute of British
Architects.
But we do not forget the Fleet Ditch, the Rookeries, and all
that went before us, when none of us would have dared set foot here.
The walk itself takes about 90 minutes, with additional time
for questions, answers and debate over tea or coffee, or perhaps ale. Dates and
times are by mutual arrangement.
