Thomas Lord and the pleasure gardens of Islington

Speaker: Glenys Williams
Time: 8:00 PM
Venue: Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, London N1
This lecture is now re-scheduled for the Autumn

It is often forgotten that Islington at one time provided pleasure gardens for the wealthy for gaming and sport, for a day out or for a weekend in the country. One host, Thomas Lord, was asked by his members to make his sports less public and so he moved them to the fields of St John's Wood. They have since become very famous.

Glenys Williams is Archivist and Historian of Lord's Cricket Ground and  her illustrated talk promises to be of great interest, covering the early history of Lord's from 1787 to 1900.
