Our 2008/09 season of lectures is now underway, so do join us, whether as a seasoned regular or a welcome newcomer.
As always, the menu is varied as we cover a great variety of topics. It is hard to keep it to ten a year! For those whose passion is archaeology, don't worry about the scarcity as yet in our published programme as there will be more to follow.
Glenys Williams was unable to join us for the previously advertised September talk about the early years of Lord's cricket ground, but looks forward greatly to seeing us in Spring 2009. It will certainly be amongst my many highlights.
Meanwhile it was a joy to hear my old friend Thomas Lorman last week. In previous lecture series we have heard about Marx, Lenin, Paine, and all manner of radical thinkers who spent time here. I think this was the first lecture we've had about a Hungarian revolutionary, and one from quite a different mould. One could debate all evening whether Kossuth was indeed a revolutionary at all.
While I am here in the public domain, let me also express thanks to all on the IA&HS Committee who help to keep our work lively. I couldn't possibly do it alone.
Warmest wishes to everyone, Andrew
