Islington People's Plaques - 2012 round Print E-mail

There are 12 shortlisted nominees for the 2012 installation of ‘green plaques’, placed for people, places, or events of note. Voting by the public is open until 10 April through www.islington.gov.uk where there is more information about each nominee. The top three will each be commemorated.

The list includes:

Isabella Beeton (1836-1865), cook and author, Colebrook Row N1

The Angel Inn, 1 Islington High Street N1

Catherine Griffiths (1885-1988), suffragette and campaigner, Prideaux Place WC1

Alexander McQueen (1969-2010), fashion designer, Aberdeen Road N5

Jack Kennedy (1935-2003), campaigner, Drayton Park N5

Michael Faraday (1791-1867), chemist and physicist, Barnsbury Grove N1

Bombing of Dame Alice Owen’s Girls’ School during the Blitz, Goswell Road EC1

Alexander Aubert (1730-1805), amateur astronomer and businessman, Highbury N5

The White Conduit Cricket Club, White Conduit Fields, Barnsbury N1

Cyril Mann (1911-1980), painter and sculptor, Bevan Court, Cruikshank Street WC1

Florence Keen (1868-1942), founder of North Islington Welfare Centre, Manor Gardens N7
