We are pleased to announce that Lester Hillman has accepted the invitation to be Academic Adviser to the Society. The appointment was formally announced on the 20th October at the joint meeting held with the Islington Society.

IA&HS ‘Real-politique’

On Wednesday 15th September our Chairman opened the new season of meetings welcoming Dr Thomas Lorman from University College London who shed a fascinating light on Islington’s Liberal MP from a century ago. Sir George Heynes Radford represented Islington East from 1906 until his death on the 5th October 1917.

The AGM will take place on Wednesday 16 June in Islington Town Hall at 7.30 before our lecture on Joseph Grimaldi, the Clerkenwell Clown, at 8pm. All members are invited to attend, or if unable to, send messages to be read.

All members of the committee apart from myself are in continued terms of office this year, and I hope to be asked to continue as there is much still to do. I'll tell members more about that in my annual report.

We need people to join the committee, and I ask any member who is interested in taking an active role to contact me or any member of the committee to talk about it. The work is not difficult, and provides an excellent way of meeting a lot of very interesting people.

Our very good friends at the Canonbury Society will be holding their annual summer garden party in June. Members of the Canonbury Society should by now have received invitations, and new members who live in the ward or have a connection with it will be most welcome to join.
